The alpine plant collection at Stonecrop is one of our most diverse and revered collections. Alpines are considered to be those species that grow at high elevations, usually above the tree line. They are dwarf in stature and often grow in a mat or cushion form. Look for alpine plants throughout Stonecrop in the raised stone beds, troughs, Lime and Ericaceous Display Frames, Alpine House and on the Rock Ledge.
The Primula and Saxifraga collections in full bloom in the Alpine house, early February.
Gentiana acaulis in the Lime Display frame, late April.
Saxifraga moschata, the "Moss Saxifrage," in early May.
Our hypertufa troughs are perfect for displaying alpine plants.
